Description:
The Wells 9A/10 and Wells 11/13 Arsenic Removal Facilities project consisted of construction of two arsenic removal plants (four wells, 2,400 gpm each) and a well pumping plant. Arsenic removal plants consisted of pH adjustment catalytic oxidation of arsenic, including: addition of ferric chloride; removal of arsenic precipitate by pressure filtration with activated media; backwash holding facilities; recycle system; solids handling; well pumping unit modifications to increase discharge head; and transmission piping to connect wells to treatment plant. Each plant contained two 150 hp vertical turbine pumping units with variable frequency drives, control building housing electrical switchgear, motor control center, and controls, and chemical feed and storage systems. Well Pumping Plant No. 34 consisted of construction of a well pumping plant, including site work, site piping, building structures, ventilation systems, motor controls, and instrumentation and controls. The project involved working closely with and as an extension to District staff. Constructability and sequencing considerations were an integral portion of both the design and construction engineering services.
