Position:
Construction Engineer
Job Description:
This is a position for a well-rounded, self-motivated, hands-on, problem solving individual. The position will require broad duties, and will provide an excellent opportunity for career development. The ideal candidate will have experience in the water/wastewater industry (pumping plants and treatment facilities), with experience in (and aptitude for) mechanical systems, electrical systems, and instrumentation and controls.
This is a skilled technical position working in both a field and office environment. This position requires some self-directed work, along with performing tasks as directed by supervisors. Basic work responsibility is to respond to inquiries regarding the Contract Documents in order to ensure that the project is constructed in accordance with the Contract Documents. Additional responsibilities are described below.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare agendas, conduct, and prepare meeting minutes for preconstruction and progress meetings
• Review project submittals to ensure compliance with the Construction Drawings and Specifications
• Review site construction activities
• Communicate daily with construction inspector(s)
• Review Contractor’s project schedules and report project status to Owner
• Prepare responses to Contractor’s requests for information and requests for change
• Maintain as-built Contract Documents and prepare final record drawings
• Resolve problems and answer questions during construction
• Review extra work requests from Contractor and prepare contract change orders
• Review Contractor’s partial payment requests
• Provide comprehensive final inspection and “punch list”
• Commissioning/startup experience would be a bonus
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management
• 5 years of experience in construction engineering
• Registered PE preferred, but not required
• Minimum of 1 year of field work (resident engineer or inspector) preferred
• Ability to read construction drawings (all disciplines)
• Ability to communicate with design engineers of all disciplines (process, civil, mechanical, electrical, controls)
• Detail-oriented with strong technical skills and interpersonal skills
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Experienced with PCs, Windows operating systems, Windows Office, Internet, email, and smartphones
• “Self-starter” with initiative and ability to organize and manage work, and balance competing priorities
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions
• Ability to drive to job sites within Southern California (valid driver’s license)
