Snow Creek Diversion, Headworks, and Power Generation Project


Description:

The project consisted of the construction or reconstruction of numerous facilities related to the diversion of water from the Agency’s Snow Creek surface water source.  Facilities constructed included a replacement reinforced concrete surface water diversion, new headworks (including intake screen, water treatment, and disinfection facilities), a 1.0 MG welded steel water storage reservoir, 11,000± L.F. of 20″ diameter aboveground and belowground penstock running from the storage reservoir to a 350 kW hydroelectric generating station, the hydroelectric generating station, and 38,600± L.F. of 24″ transmission pipeline running from the generating station to the Agency’s service area in the City of Palm Springs.

Services Provided:

Services provided by Krieger & Stewart included preparation of numerous environmental documents, Caltrans longitudinal encroachment permit acquisition, surveying, site and alignment selection, utility excavation and verification, preliminary design, design engineering (including structural, electrical, and mechanical engineering), equipment selection, contract document preparation, assistance with the bidding and award process for each phase/component of the project, and construction engineering (contract administration, submittals review, and construction observation, and field testing of all project facilities).
